Andrew leads the TBR Observatory, our team of specialist data analysts and statisticians, and oversees the development of TCR, our unique longitudinal database of information of UK firms. He has managed and delivered a wide range of projects for TBR, including research measuring the value of design to the UK, a project examining the future digital skills needs of the economy, analysis of education and training provision and participation in the Crafts sector, and analysis of the Higher Education pipeline for the mathematical sciences, as well as research mapping the workforce in the science, engineering and housing sectors.
One of Andrew’s key strengths is his detailed knowledge of a wide range of socioeconomic data sources and the classification systems they depend on, and the ways in which different datasets can be used together to improve our clients’ understanding of their subject area. He is a keen advocate of the use and re-use of secondary data, with proven experience of developing and adapting methodologies to efficiently answer difficult research questions within limited client budgets.
Andrew has almost 20 years’ experience as a data analyst and researcher, in both the public and private sectors. His background is in labour market and skills research in the Further Education sector. Before joining TBR, he was responsible for the regional programme of research and analysis at Learning and Skills Council North East, and subsequently the Young People’s Learning Agency, North East. Andrew has extensive experience of working with national and local data sources to examine changing local and regional economies, and to model their future needs.
Outside work, Andrew can often be found exploring Newcastle and the surrounding area with his young children. When not out and about, he’s usually in his kitchen, or cooking on one or more of his collection of barbecues.
